Microsoft Basic and Keyboarding coming soon remotely!
The Center for Cultural Empowerment and all WVI activities are suspended.
Please join us and support the Woven Vessels Center for Cultural Empowerment, a tech center that teaches computer literacy to the community. Some students, including refugees and immigrants in the Lansing School District are not fluent enough to pass the State's exams (ACT, SAT, etc.). As a result, Michigan's academic ranking decreases and affects us collectively. The school district cannot do it all.
We can help, but we need your support!
We are a registered 501(c)3 organization headquartered in Lansing, Michigan. This organization is a 'pro-vision' of the Least of These Ministry: an outreach program founded by Rev. Dr. Charles and Jacqueline Humphrey, who saw the predicament newcomers encountered, upon arrival to their new country. Inspired by Matthew 25:40, we began to assist with small tasks from our own resources to fulfill this biblical calling. Over the years, the newcomers grew in numbers and so did their needs....
We have embarked on several programs to meet the growing needs of those whom we serve. Learn more by clicking the links below:
The Center for Cultural Empowerment includes a computer lab where the Literacy for Leaders' Keyboarding Classes are now available.
Greater Lansing African Female Empowerment Program (GLAFEP) - WVI has partnered with Michigan State University's African Female Student Empowerment Program (AFSEP) to create a shared vision and a safe space for GLAFEP.
This is a- one-of-a-kind program that:
- Promotes dialogue, builds trust, invests in academic and leadership
activities;
- Embark on a path to turn fear of the unknown into excitement for the
future;
- Emboldens uncomfortable, but courageous dialogue to promote inclusion
and understanding of individual differences.
- Equips female youth and their parents with the mindset to boost self-
confidence in a collaborative manner.
The Ball4All Summer Soccer Camp
TARGET CORPORATION AWARDS GRANT TO BALL4ALL SOCCER PROGRAM
The Camp develops a passion for soccer in youth. We provide a safe space to foster physical, emotional and mental growth by playing soccer, allowing them to develop team building and leadership skills.
***In our effort to empower the people we serve, we refer to refugees as 'newcomers' to define them by who they really are now - as opposed to who they were.
